Make it count

As we go through what is a never seen and hopefully never to be seen again phase of our lives, we must reflect and ponder on things that we take for granted.

Time is a finite commodity and our propensity to dispose of it lightly is something that has cost us dearly. Always

As an example, how many of you reading this blog have with a reasonable degree of certainty mapped out your course of action for the next 2-3 or 5 years? If you haven’t thought about it …don’t fret. Most of us are in the same boat. We often feel that we don’t have a plan for the future because we do not have the time to think or we are too afraid to plan, or there are too many thoughts in our mind about our future or we are looking at friends and thinking about changing course.

We try to find ways of occupying our time in this period of great stress, and try to find temporary means of fulfilment and turn to Amazon, Netflix or the internet for gratification.

A year down the road, when we reminiscence of how we spent our time in quarantine, we would have great stories of binge watching and myriad activities, almost everything except what was right for us.

Here are my thoughts on how you can handle the stress of indecision, focus on your goals and give yourself a course of action.

1) Breathe: Yes, that’s the first step. When we are stressed, our breath is what goes out of control. So if you just breathe and think about the 3 important areas of your life, you can begin the next step.

2) Create a list: Bring out your writing pad, planner, phone or notebook and put down your thoughts. You can even put those thoughts down that might not be so important but you need to think about them.

3) Plan: now that you have your thoughts in place, you can begin to give them priority. Start from the most important and go down the list. Create timelines for each one of them. Hint: you can start with easiest because that will give you a sense of achievement.

That’s it. Try these and see how things begin to work for you!
