Thinking about applying to Dartmouth? Let’s talk a closer look at the University.

Dartmouth College was founded in 1769. It is an Ivy League institution that has four graduate schools- the Geisel of Medicine, the Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies, Thayer School of Engineering and the Tuck School of Business. Dartmouth is a liberal arts school with approximately 4,400 undergraduate students and 2,100 graduate students. It is the smallest Ivy League which allows its students access to the resources of a large university but within a more intimate college setting. The college also shares a close relationship with its alumni which offers its new students’ valuable internships and networking opportunities before they even graduate. Some of their most notable alumni include Meryl Streep, Mindy Kaling, Shonda Rhimes, Robert Frost, Nelson Rockefeller and many others.

Education and support at Dartmouth

At Dartmouth, students can build academic programs around their own intellectual goals thanks to their flexible academic calendar. The calendar is structured around a quarter system instead of a semester system so students are given the opportunity to participate in off-campus internships, study abroad programs and conduct full-time research throughout the year.

The college also has a Student Academic Support Center which houses the undergraduate dean’s office, the office of pluralism and leadership and the pre-health advising. Together, these work to support students’ academic, social and emotional needs. In addition, all incoming students are paired with a faculty academic advisor and an undergraduate dean to help navigate Dartmouth from the first time you set foot until you walk across the stage at graduation.

The campus

Talking about its facilities, Dartmouth holds on its campus nine spectacular libraries. The Baker-Berry Library contains the Orozco murals in the Orozco room, which is regarded a National Historic Landmark. As students, you would have access to over 2.5 million books and hundreds of thousands of digital resources. Along with these libraries, the institution is also home to the Hood Museum of Art. This museum contains over 65,000 objects with up to 10 special exhibitions a year, making it an outstanding campus resource. It is also free to all students and a host of lectures, gallery talks and workshops are continuously offered throughout the year.

In addition, there is also the Hopkins Center for the Arts, Black Family Visual Arts Center, the Dartmouth Hall- which is the oldest academic building, the DEN, Rollins Chapel and much more.

Amongst Dartmouth’s notable alumni are also some of the best athletes in the world. The institution holds an Athletics Complex and has over 30 Division One varsity athletic teams. Students also have access to the college’s ski mountain, the equestrian center and the Zimmerman Fitness center, which is the largest recreational fitness center in the Ivy League.

If you want to get a closer look at the campus, do take the virtual campus tour offered by the college on their website.
